Description
Before calling Jim Lytell Marble and Stone Restoration, it is useful to learn your Naples sandstone floor’s attributes. Sandstone is a siliceous sedimentary stone that is primarily composed of loose grains of quartz sand that are rough in texture. This sand, rich in quartz and other minerals, were piled and compacted and over a long period of time and cemented into a rock like material that is combined with iron oxide, calcium carbonate, and silica. As a result we have sandstone. Sandstone can typically be found in colors including red, brown, gray, and yellow. Sandstone is used a variety of surfaces including counter-tops, flooring, showers, porches, stepping stones, pavers and vertical surfaces. After the Civil War, a common sight in cities like New York, and Boston were homes bricked with a type of sandstone called Brownstone. Sandstone can be found in a number of places in the world. Red sandstone is commonly found in the western and southwestern parts of England, Wales, as well as areas of Europe, and Mongolia. Other forms of sandstone can be found in the Appalachian Mountains, Montana, also in Italy, Egypt, and India.
